What is Christian Counseling?

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." - John 14:27

What is Christian Counseling?

Christian counseling is a faith-integrated counseling approach. I use many of the same treatment interventions that I would with any client, but involve your faith in the process. How this looks specifically varies from client to client, and even counselor to counselor.

Why Is This Important?

Your faith is unique to you, and it is a large part of your heart and soul. It often molds what you believe about yourself, your values, and your decision-making processes. I encourage an open and judgement-free conversation to talk about your faith and how that impacts your current struggles and triumphs. At times, a current struggle may clash with your beliefs or values – causing confusion and frustration. Sometimes we find shame and guilt connected to our faith or beliefs. Sometimes we are mad at God. Through talking through these issues, as hard or uncomfortable as it may be, you are able to untangle conflicting thoughts or feelings, and make better decisions. God is not afraid to hear your doubts, anger, or shame, and He even invites us to come to Him in these times. I hope to come alongside you to talk through these conflicting feelings and celebrate in the hope, peace, and assurance faith delivers.

How do I integrate your faith?

I utilize a very collaborative approach where I cultivate your counseling plan to be comfortable and effective for you while incorporating various techniques, insight, and skills. I work as an outside observer to provide insight, observations, and help spark growth to help you reach your goals. Some of the conversations I utilize may look at what we know the character of God to be, what your beliefs and values are, and how your faith has shaped how you see yourself or your family. We may look into what you believe about healing, peace, redemption, or forgiveness to encourage, challenge, and strengthen you throughout the process.

Last Thoughts:

I encourage you to come as you are. This is not a place of judgement or blame. Wherever you are in your faith journey, I am excited to meet you and hear your story. Sometimes your story is easy to tell, and sometimes it is very hard to tell. Wherever your story lies, it is worth being told and to continue being written. I am someone who believes in the same redeeming and restoring power of Christ, and hope to be a place where you feel the peace we know He gives.

It is important to find someone who is a good fit and can integrate faith in a way that is beneficial to you or your loved one. If this page has resonated with you, I encourage you to take that first step towards counseling. Let’s talk about your needs and what next steps need to happen for you to reach healing and growth.
